Island Lady

                                                      —  for Lanie

Where have you gone island lady,
what wind blew you away from the shoreline
    of my mind?
I used to enjoy sharing your poetry
    with the red winged blackbird
    beneath eucalyptus trees,
now leaves are falling like absent blossoms
and your pen is as silent as a dewdrop.
I looked for pages of words
    under seagull stained driftwood,
in the claws of muted crabs . . .
but all I found in the sand
    were conch shells that bore
    no music.
So come back to us and bathe our eyes
in your delicate sensual phrasing —
    we can share a pipe,
    a dram of warm cognac
and trade poems beside the embers
    of an August fire

    beneath a southern full moon.

She touched all of us and we in turn are reaching for her now...I did go to her blog that Wbiro found and it gives a little insight. Suffering insomnia and maybe she is just so drained that she needs some time. I hope that is all there is. Love, C

Sighhh...Her words aren't really gone, dear Scribe...not as long as we remember then, tucked safely into the corners of our hearts...She left us as she lived; on her own terms, in her own quietly effective way...a soft southern breeze that echos gently in the mountains & valleys of our minds..a persistent, warm current of an uncharted ocean. This is a beautiful tribute to one who touched far more people than she'll ever realize. Good luck in Chez's contest, Sweetie. I hope she hears our prayers & pleas. We'll hear her sweet song again, my Friend...if not in this world, then in the next. Wanda
