Daddy's Garden

Daddy went to heaven
on that awful day
All that we could do
was cry and to pray
The memories live on
Each stone laid with care
We built your memorial;
planted bleeding hearts there
There in the dirt,
your ashes I spread
Adorned with angels
and hearts of red
Daddy's little garden
helps to ease the pain
and serves as a reminder
one day we'll meet again
Each bloom represents
the love in his heart
Oh, how I cried
when we had to part
Can you see from heaven
this garden built for you?
Until we meet again,
I bid you adieu

Author notes

A true story about a garden built in memorial of my daddy. He loved Brown County (Nashville, Indiana) so the garden was made of Brown County stone and bleeding hearts were planted to represent our grief

Beautiful poem! I really enjoyed this and I could easily picture everything. It's got such a child like innocence to it, and that's what really makes it heartbreaking. Thank you for entering!

I felt that, for pace, there could have been sporadic breaks here and there. Other than that, a solemnly lovely poem.

    You need ...

a period after "adieu" in the last line.

This is not a bad write, and it's certainly a poignant one.

    Thanks for entering.

You loved him so much, and I am sure he knows that. This shows that love and I am sure he can feel your love to this very day, as it is divine.

This is a great tribute to him! We are doing the same thing in my front yard. I wanted to plant a flower for each family member that has been called home to heaven. Good luck with this.
