Remnants of past inspiration
paintings, drawings line the walls
colors, lines and figures
mocking my current struggle
as i stare down at the blank page before me.
I haven't slept in over a week.
Drugs prescribed to keep me going
do nothing more than keep me alive
they dim the once bright lightbulbs
leaving shadows that obscure
allow images, ideas to hide
in faded corners of my psyche.
The mind dies.
Still the heart beats on
medically, physically remaining sound
loveless, lost and hollow
tears do not come to the numb
i stare down at the page as blank as i feel.
Spark a match,
rainbow pills amidst dancing flames
draw themselves across the page.
The light's still there after all.
Author notes
I've had insomnia most of my life, which was never much of a problem until my doctors decided to try to fix it through trial and error with cocktails of prescription drugs. talk about bad idea, gave me something like a five year creative block, def not worth it.
also, the first thing i created after the block was a drawing of the multicolored pills burning and such, kinda weak, but was a glimmer of hope after five years.

This reminds me of the movie "A Beautiful Mind" which if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about and if you haven't seen it, you should.
