I often wonder which Lane we cross
when struggling to find our way
down highways, and byways, and ways of love
looking for rains from above
and gracing the skies of cooing doves
in flight and memory of the mind
when missing a friend we cannot find
I've searched forever for friendship's muse
took trains long ride, and ocean's cruise
but never have I found a lark
that gave poetic words their spark
and hearkened to the wanton will
of poetry with ink-filled quill
then walked away but was needed still
I wonder, ponder, can't quite guess why
But in this mix and match-a-day world
we watch the risks of disappointment
it twirls and unfurls in the midst
of storms and night's darkness cast
with hopes that love and kinships last
we miss those who have moved on
It's sad to me that Lane is gone
I hope when she does decide to return
she'll fuse the words that still burn
in our hearts and in our minds
her livelihood here still combines
our sincerest hopes that she'll fair well
for answered prayers only time will tell
So, to my sister, my breath of delight
I hope and pray with all my might
that you will come back on the scene
with greener pastures having been grazed
and hopes that insincerity was not glazed
for Laney is our angel real
and I must confess I can guess how she feels
For there are times
I'd like to pack up and go
but a sure destination is one I don't know
and for the time being
I'll stick and stay
but like my sister
I'll leave someday

What a thoughtful way to say goodbye. As always your light shines brightly in this dark and ever changing world. Best of luck in the contest.
Sincerly,

very nice. you bring out the feeling of loss in a way that most can understand. but its not a bitter energy at all. the beat has a nice movement to it. love the heart behind the words.

2 Things:
1st, this was awesome but then I only expect that from you sis, but still, this was such an awesome tribute. I feel I know Lane and I even feel a loss at not having gotten to know her. This poem brings to mind those who have touched my life who I haven't heard or seen after their season was over. I miss them terribly and I was reminded how much by your wonderful piece. Thank you so much for sharing it.
2nd, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, Never leave!! You would become yet another wonderful diamond that I've grown to love and there would be a terrible emptiness in my life while you are gone.
One Love,
John
