Dying, she rouses briefly
from her drug-induced sleep,
saying my name.
"I'm here" I say,
and she smiles softly
as I press her hand.
"I love you" I say,
and her smile broadens
as she whispers:
"It was good loving
wasn't it?"
Author notes
When pre-written for AP it was amended to the third person to disguise the fact that it was so personal to me.
I have now edited it by returning it to the first person, just as it was originally written in 1996
These were my wife's last words.
