The number of years one has lived upon this earth
the number of days, you have become wiser -
under what circumstances makes your age
equal to that of your wisdom?
Perhaps those whom lived a hundred years-
know a bit more about this life... on which we ponder
as youngins we still know – right from wrong
we still know on which side of the hill – day breaks
We can still see the beauty laden upon the spring grass
the crystalline dew, sparkling out – greeting the morning sun
perhaps a day or two more, means another – sunrise; sunset
but how does that compare, to the knowledge inscribed
in the many volumes of my mental library
these encyclopedias, I pick through – everyday
pondering the meaning of words – discriminating against my age
but do 365 sunrises and sunsets make one a smarter individual?
I think not, for the age does not hold one's intelligence
the maturity of an single soul perhaps holds the key
ignorance the lock, for it to be fitted in, slid slowly into the chamber
and turned... for the freedom of being able to state your opinions
without the discrimination of elders, and those whom have seen more
nights and days... through their eyes...

Good one dear..age does not matter as much as experience and your perspective on life..what we see and feel changes us and is inscribed in us...
All the best in the contest..

i think you are wiser beyond your years. This write holds so much knowledge that goes beyond your age. Excellent and a lot to ponder over.

beautiful
i love it this is so true of me and probably many
others our age. -
Beautiful rant. Job well done.

Thank you for your comment. -
i've felt this way so much.
"but do 365 sunrises and sunsets make one a smarter individual?" that line is gold.

Great write
This is a great attempt at grasping the concept of age and maturity.I loved the stanza starting with 'We can still see the beauty laden..." Someone else's being older than you does not really matter so much as one's own growing up from being say an 18 year old to 30 or from being 28 to being 50. So write on you do have poetry in you. And by the way thanks on your kind words about my poem about family. -
Possessed with a fantastic talent enabling you to make your point directly. Wisdom beyond your years, which your years are only a measure of time not your ability.
Peace in light and love

I think you've proved your point!
You writing says a lot about your maturity not withstanding your chronological age. Well done, my young (but mature) friend... well done!

Excellent
A wonderful creation for the theme. So well expressed. Best of luck in the contest.

three thumbs up
while age and wisdom do go hand in hand, the advantage of intelligence goes to the youth. They are more capable to filter through the plethora of new information coming at the world so fast these days and make sense of it all.

Excellent
Very insightful and true in many ways.
Lines 4-7 and 16-19 struck me as unusually insightful
-
Very perceptive and true. I sense that many 'youguns'--as you put it have a lot more wisdom today than us oldsters who lived in a much simpler world. Good rant
-
I like it some people think we are stupid but we are not they do not want to give us any credit because they have things to worry about.I dont think alot of adults care about kids

-
for someone who is 15, you are very insightful; that is very rare for anyone of any age these days. but i do think that age matters a little bit. i think that those that are 50+ have an edge over us, because they grew up in a different time and a differnt culture. americans, as a whole, have backslided over the past 15/20 years. it's sad really.
your poem was truly thought provoking and well written. everything was clear in it's meaning, yet poetically touching. amazing write!!!

Whenever I read your work, I look back at your age and wonder how you could write with such depth. Not because you're young but because I know when I was nowhere near as mature. That being said, I think adding another year does not make you a smarter person. It just depends on how you spent that year. So intelligence has nothing to do with age. But I'm skeptical to equate knowledge and wisdom. I do think wisdom does increase with age and experiencing the trial's of life. But again, a young person that has through a lot can definitely be wiser than those older. I'm ranting now too! lol. So, well done. Thought-provoking piece, as you can see

Intelligence by age?? I don't think so......
Wow...this is really something...and when you said this was ranting I was thinking this was a mature vision of a 15 year old and a lot of immature oldies could take a big example on your words...
It's never right to judge people, not by age, not by anything...
Wow...splendid.....

-
Wow you know this is pretty impressive, I really can't believe that a 15 year old wrote this, but you know that is what makes it really great and unique. I am a big fan of ranting, because that's what I prefer to write myself and it wasn't that long which is good since most people don't want to read long poems, but I think that's stupid because that means they are too lazy to read it, but my young friend this is a very good write and the points you make are ever so true and trust me you will have lots of people agreeing with you after they read this piece. AMAZING JOB!
