[Hum the tune of "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane as you read this poem]
One view makes him larger
And one view makes him small
And the view that overlooks him
Doesn't show him there at all-
He's my Betta
And he's two inches long.
And if you go past his fishbowl
And don't give him any food
He'll dive down towards the bottom
And bring up rocks to spit at you.
He's my Betta,
And he's mad at you!
When the lights by his fishbowl
Are dimmed and very low
You still see his bright red color
But there's something you should know-
Go look at Sam,
I think you'll know...
The lifespan of a Betta
is but two to three years
And the signs of some strange illness
have quite suddenly appeared
But it's too late to help him-
My Sam is dead!
Sam is dead!

I was listening to Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" when he died, and later when I wrote this memory poem, the rhythm and music came back to me.

i can't say the song rings a bell, but the poem def has a nice rhythm and flow to it. male bettas are so beautiful, but i think it sad that they have to live alone b/c of their agressiveness.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for entering my contest. This was SO COOL!! I've never knew this song was called White Rabbit, but I've always like the voice of 'Airplane.' It sounds so in your face, and it's about a PET FISH! I LOVE IT! Hahaa, good luck in the contest!!

How sad! It's a rather cute write. Songs aren't usually particularly cute, so I admire you for taking that risk. I think you pulled it off rather well. i think that you would have a greater chance at winning, though, if you wrote something completely original. I support the fact that you were inspired, but I'm trying to test your abilities, not Jefferson Airplane's. i support inspiration, but that's not what I asked for. It is very well done, though, and I encourage you to work on developing yourself further

Well
I got a new betta, feisty as Sam was but not fiery red.
He's mostly white with blue and purple and slight red tinges in his fins. His name is Firefly. -
I know how that one goes! I am a fish person. I don't have any now, but I do love the little things! Well done indeed!

Sorry about Sam. I use to have some betta's when I was younger and they are beautiful fish. If you put two males together though the will fight! lol just like males!! Hope you got another to look at and care for.
Oh...sorry I don't know who Jefferson Airplane is.
