They say high school
Is the best time of life
Yet so many kids
Grip a shining knife
Held bluntly to their wrist
Hoping they might bleed
A senseless bloodlust
They think they must feed
Now it's August
College is about to start
We say our goodbyes
As we depart
We say we'll remember
We say we'll talk
Yet I go to write an email
And my fingers balk
Just graduated from school
Time to start work
I try to remember
Our odd little quirks
We were silly
We were odd
Together there was
No needed fascade
Things are awkward
When I see you on the street
I try to make conversation
But end up staring at my feet
We should have just stopped talking
When we graduated from high school
Because now when I see you
I feel like a fool
I think of how I would have done it
It would have been so simple
But I got caught up by your eyes
And your cute little dimple
I wish I would have just said,
"See You When You're 40"
You would have chuckled and said,
"Later, little shorty"
I would have loved
If it had gone that way
But even now, when I want something
My fellings betray
I know you got married
When we grew apart
Just thinking about it
Puts pain in my heart
I still love you
I know it must sound sad
But if I could have said those words
Maybe it wouldn't hurt so bad
Those five words
Would have ended it right then
And I wouldn't be sitting here,
Crying with this pen

The title "See You When You're 40" stuck out to me, and this randomness filled my brain. Hope it's liked.
