Broken By Society

I've been tossed around by anger
I've been beaten, brutalized, and destroyed
And I've stood up after all of it
To face the attacker and laugh.
If they think they, in twenty minutes,
Could inflict all of the pain I've seen in my life
Even halfway,
They are sadly mistaken
I've seen the face of the moon go red
And the mother on the street corner
Just to feed her poor child
I've noticed the drunken fools late at night
And the police goofing off indstead of doing their jobs
I've been smashed into walls, thrown onto floors,
Defiled in alleyways to boot
I've been raped, destroyed, and socially outcasted
And one more person can't change any of it for the better
Or the worse
My head filled with broken plots of revenge
That will never be gone through with
And if you listen closely, you can hear my irregular heartbeat
(thumpthump-boom, thumpthump-boom)
Like crashing cymbals with a snare drum
Blaring the chaos in my head into further dissaray
I have no family, they threw me out a long time ago
For shame of my being
And I have no true friends
Just the hookers playing poker every Friday night
(and even they, I fear, think ill of me)
So I'll just be tossed around again and again
Until my heart stops beating
Because what do I have to live for?
I'm in New York City
Behold, Lady Liberty,
The land of (no)opportunity
