I saw a seagull, swimming down the park;
"Who needs the sea, ma man?" he said to me,
"I've come up frae North Berwick oan a spree,
Please meet the wife, ma son, ma youngest daughter
They like it fine tae paddle in the water
These high-rise flats are fine as any rocks,
We dine on pizza frae a cardboard box.
I canny understand when men complain
Aboot a bonny shower of winter rain
We seagulls long tae see the blessed day
When all the world is drenched in ocean spray!"
He spread his wings and soared into the sky,
Splitting the heavens with his raucous cry
Curtains of rain unfurled across the scene,
While pockmarked puddles spread across the green.
I closed my eyes. A future came to me
Where all the world was spread with glass-green sea
Where granite towers, devised by men long-gone
Were flocked with seagulls, roosting thereupon.
The vision faded. It was growing dark
I splashed off homeward through the drowning park
While from the gray and gently weeping skies
I heard the seagulls' harsh, ironic cries.
Author notes
I know that this effort doesn't fit into any of your suggested forms, but I thought I'd submit it anyway to cheer you up. Here in Scotland our winters seem to be turning into wet seasons. I haven't seen snow as in your picture for many a year. Well, the world keeps turning. Hope Spring comes soon!

Hi there :)
This may not be in Form....but it sure is a nice write :)
Rhyming is good....but using same rhyme is a no, no.....so if at all possible, you should not repeat rhyme :)
Lots of terrific Imagery going on, and Focus on your Theme is splendid......nice job!
God bless,
Bear ~

I'll take a bit a bun wi' me
to feed the bonny seabirds
for the sun has hid away today
and all the snow blows leeward.

Thank you so much!
This is very whimsical and truly is a joy to read.
I hope your “vision” of the future doesn’t come true though, as much as I like both seagulls and rain.
It seems like our winters don’t come with nearly as much snow as they did when I was a kid, even though getting dumped on like this still happens occasionally. It sure makes for a good argument to support global warming, if nothing else.
Even though it’s not in form, I really appreciate the effort to cheer me up. And a successful effort at that!
TY again,
~J.

I would far rather have snow and the dry cold (however cold) than the cold wet in winter. I enjoyed this poem, it is fanciful as we consider the conversation of gulls. I can't tell the Mr from the Mrs, can you?

Good luck!

Someone once sent me a rather scurrilous picture of a method of telling Mr from Mrs Seagull. Here is the link:

I apologise in advance. -
