I remember my uncle
A Marine
Laughing
Strong
Effervescent
He was a shell by the end
little pieces whittled away
day by day
had left him bedridden
Skin slipping over bones
fat and muscle wasted away
fed to a relentless disease
left behind by a one-night-stand
No strength
No dignity
No hope
His mom and dad
tending to his most private needs
A young man
He looked 80
Sunken, mottled, emaciated
Struggling to hold on
to one last breath
I remember my uncle
A Marine
Laughing
Strong
Effervescent

Helluva write ...
and an extremely poignant one. Too bad about your Uncle. It's a very strange world we live in. I've always wondered if God is a sadist or just a twisted practical joker.
Good luck in the contest.

Wow, this is very powerful. My goosebumbs have goosebumbs, I am sorry for your loss. What a great tribute to your uncle. Bravo!

This is beautiful. The words flow together so easily and it really did give me some information on the effects of AIDS physically. You also present some of the emotional effects of the family as well as your uncle. Thank you so much for your entry and good luck.
