Desperate Redemption

I.  The vengeful acrid taste
Of blood stagnates in thy mouth
O sinner of souls
Spare my destiny.
The poisonous fumes
Of thine malice
Grate on my nerves
Alas, wasted breaths reside.

II.  On thy behalf have I lead
In thy stead have I stood
In thy presence have I believed
What have thou against me?
Violence has made me hard
But the conscience is no fool
Harder you suppress it
The faster it rises up to you.
But thou suffer no regrets
Thy heart knows not to bleed
Human nature conspires against me
Spare my destiny.

III.  What have thou to lose
If nothing is thine?
In these dark waters before me
Lies a darker shadow that I call mine.
My fetters have broken
Ravaged by cruelty, debauchery and lying
And now that time draws nearer to the reckoning
I know not but to resort to crying.

IV.  Too much has been done to forgive
But hope still flickers a weary flame
I know I have not much to save,
Neither much to provide
I have ignored thy presence for so long
And for that have I paid
But in my last moments, comfort me
Spare my destiny...

"grate on my nerves" made my blood shiver.
    I enjoyed the old-world style.
    Great rhyme and near-rhyme.
