they were proud to be German
rulers of the world
a thousand years
the Leader's dictatorship would last
the Master Race would succeed
and exterminate the inferior Jews
of course it was never mentioned
that "der Führer" himself might
have had Jewish ancestors
no, of course Hitler was German
this dark haired little man
who preferred blond, blue eyed children
concealed his own descent
by killing the Jews
he would silence the voices inside his head
that were telling him he was one of them
Author notes
The claim that Hitler had "Jewish" ancestors has never been confirmed or disproved...

You know now that I think about it, on most poetry sites, including AP, seeing a poem about history is rare. Most poems are based almost completly on emotions. I like that this isn't just emotions.

It's still not actually proven that he (through his Grandmother I believe) has ancestry in Judaism. And, though he may or may not I still don't see how religion and race are synonymous with each other. I understand peoples points-of-view on how, and why but whether you deny judaism or not (for those who are "jewish") they're still seen as being a Jew. It's quite baffling, I feel.
This poem seems to come off as fact when I feel it should come off as an opinion based on facts or what are known facts relaying to what I say above.

A well thought out piece, thanks for entering.

I am sure it is indeed a possibility - it seems we are all connected one way or another.

Ah, but it isn't the Germans that were so bad; it was the nazis. You might know this, but the nazis blamed the Jews for their loss in WWI. Anyone that thinks one group of people is better than others is nuts. I heard that hitler's mother was Jewish

I know it was the Nazis, but many Germans were "conformists" (this word is closest to what I'm trying to express, I can't think of another English word to express it in a better way)
I know it was not all of them but many.
I'm German myself, and I'm not prejudiced against Germans or anything.
And the word "they" in the first line is supposed to refer to the Nazis mostly.
Thanks for commenting1!

You're welcome
I understand. My dad's family came from Germany in the late 1800's. I didn't think that you were prejudiced; I was hoping to clarify because so many people don't understand the difference.
