And now number three

Another's Skin

When I, on YouTube, spotted Heather Mills
McCartney I knew the film would give me chills
Expecting some scandal, gruesome and poor
I still got much, much more than I bargained for
She showed film of a Chinese fur farm, keeping
Animals in cages, leaping, leaping, leaping, leaping
Then they dragged them out
And knocked them on the head
Sometimes they were still alive
And sometimes they were dead
But either way their skin was ripped
Immediately with slits at paunch and wrists
And quickly torn off of each screeching beast
I guess the body went to feed its friends, no waste
Of time or meat in an efficient farm
For the cheapest coats to keep the western public warm
Warning: Those with weak stomachs will find them disordered
By real harm to real animals as the film was recorded

Will you be buying the coats?

Not a popular presenter; not a popular subject but she uses her notoriety to good purpose, I think.

Skin Problems

What gave darkness such a bad name?

In the dark, perhaps, or at the moment of liberation

Skin colour has no meaning

All Grey. Lost

The disadvantage of black

The embarrassment of white

All brothers

In the Dark.

In the cold light of day

Each nuance counts

The auto-classification system

Bred into the rainbow nation

The legacy perpetuated

By every action necessary to remove it

Can any skin ever be

More equal than another?

Love on the Way

(Working Title)

Falling in love

A hundred times each day is

About

Beauty that makes you catch your breath

About

Hair and clothes and image

The twist of a lip

The twitch of a smile

About

Moving out of your comfort zone

And speaking to

Strangers on the Underground.

But then you remember

That you don’t need to do anything

Thank God

It’s only skin deep.

Author notes

Possibly a slightly aberrant approach to the topic?

I couldn't get through all of the video. It was just too horrible. Those poor animals. What is going on is pure torture! How can anyone do anything like this to a living creature? Thankfully, there are those like you that are willing to speak out against these attrocities and say that these things are wrong and that buying fur is wrong. Eventually, I hope that the rest of the world catches up and finds a better more humane way to act towards god's creatures. Thank you for this poem and your activism!

I think that all three of these poems are strong writes and really give a different view on these topics.
The first one, really does make me sad; I don't like to think about those horrible people that skin animals for the fur to be sold if it is not for the right reason. If you had no other choice, and had to skin an animal so you would not freeze and die it would be understandable and more humane.
As for the skin problem subject, I totally agree. We should all be able to live together and get along, there is nothing wrong with having different skin to someone else. if anyone disagree's then they are just racist. I don't believe that there should be a problem concerning skin colour, but some people in the world just don't understand how to be civil.
Your last poem was very interesting, and I really enjoyed reading it. I like how you set it out aswell, it really gave it a nice vibe
    Well done,

I'm too sure on the subject matter of Mizz Mills-McCartney ... but I do agree how we sit in our own skins Vic and then we make a mess and make it all too graphically wrong

I think these 3 pieces sit well together and are truly storng and succinct poetry...

    well done hun

I liked the first one, sounds like some animal activist, I mean my views are a lil different though, some people only kill animals for meat and for fur to keep themselves warm but going out of ur way to kill an animal just for its fur to sell because its beautiful or rare, well thats wrong. I guess I can connect on this one.

    Good 'Writes'

1-Another's skin: Monstrous images very successfully delivered in graphic, unforgettable detail, well done!... No, wont be buying.
2-Skin Problems: To be honest it's not an issue I personally dwell on much, here in England where I live. However I've felt it brought more to the fore, when visiting the States for some reason. Intelligently written, though I just think skin has a beauty disregarding and regarding its colours and yes presents invitation to that which is deeper.
3-Love on the Way: Yes, I can relate to this also but I wouldn't relate 'falling in love' to only being skin deep. Yes that aspect is there but I'd never put it under the same classification as 'Love on the Way' as you have come up with and very aptly I think to these descriptions.
Anyway- yes! You don't need to do anything anyway, love just takes you as and where it chooses, deep and superficially, simply by your being open to it in which ever way... I reckon. Sol

    Excellent!

Wonderfully Written As Well As Expressed in the beging before the poem it's self ! I like the way you commented that at least maybe the bodies of the one's that had to die and suffer , May have been food to keep the others alive.(Gre@t Reasoning There ) My Favorite peice is: But then you remember,That you don't have to do anything. Thank God,It's only skin deep.I love that one the most for ,Beauity is only skin deep , and there is no difference what the color of your skin be , Wheather it be Black or White or Any Other Color, It Doesn't Really Matter ! I also love the way you made it flow so gentle and free! Brenda Gae

the whole animal fing is kind of insensitive to the farmers becoz if people stopped buying fur, deyd hav to look for a new job, it is easy to look down upon them as such jobs r rare in western civiliazations. however I really liked your last poem

I don't actually object to farming. I grew up on one and I believe that you should not eat anything you would not be prepared to kill yourself. There is no respect for a plastic chicken in a supermarket and the life that was sacrificed for your chicken sandwich. That is why mass fur farming is disgusting. No respect for the animals, no dignity and gratuitous pain.
