I would have wings and ruffled feathers,
eyes bright as glass beads, claws sharp
enough for hanging on and holding to~
I would like to know how a dove knows
to mourn a day going missing
and how to coo through heat
and how to press my heart
down on bough by beak~
I would like webbed feet for paddling
against undertows and still look
serene as if no work was done at all~
Could I be granted
a single gliding moment of an eagle
so I could carve the world a rainbow?

I really have no critique. This is lovely. The imagery is wonderful. Thank you.

I would say you have been granted many of these moments, as I have watched you soaring, in awe. Gorgeous.

hey, nice eagle, I may steal it some day (and give the source, of course!) OH, this 'not a sonnet' contest... let's see what you have... yes, it has the tone and sentiment of a sonnet without bending to the rigid rules... let's see how you fare...

Oh so beautiful . . . it touched me in those deep places of longing in the heart . . . thank you Carol, for poetry like this is a gift to those of us who hunger for a sanctuary of serenity in this sorry old world.

a very moving piece ... thru the stanzas, one sees the vivid nature of experience and the connection we strive for. beautiful layout, also. thanks.

This is nice ...
and it's also a sonnet, even though it doesn't rhyme. I'd suggest you enter it in cricketjeff's contest for unconventional sonnets.
