Not God, But a Swastika

He reigns
Like some vengeful and bloodthirsty deity.
He commands
Looking down mercilessly, without pity.
He frightens
Shaking his fist, holding a country.
And yet…it kept me in awe.
It made me wonder, how did he do it all?

Elegant and hostile,
Feral and keen,
Stacking men up in piles,
To say the least, it’s obscene!

And yet…I’m in awe,
When staring at his venomous claws.
His words captivated and delighted me
Accented by background screams.
He roars, “Ich bin Gott! Ich herrsche!”
                                        —And then I see…I finally see…
…What I see is not God, but a Swastika.

Author notes

This poem is not meant to be offensive. I do not support Hitler, but I believe he is just human, like the rest of us. This started out as a silly school assignment to write a poem, but I really liked the turnout of the poem.

Thank You for your entry... somewhat I do agree with what you say in your AN... We are all just human and so was he.
You did great with this (and I hope you got a good grade)

    Thanks for the entry
