Has God been deafened by my sound
Maybe He doesn’t recognize my voice
Only turning to him when there’s no other choice
Taking and taking without giving
Is this punishment for the way I’ve been living?
Please God hear my prayer
Don’t do it for me
Do it for an innocent soul
This little infant you’ve sent
All I need is a miracle
Strength to conquer this obstacle
I would let you take the health from me
And give it all to Mickie
God, please!
Just let him get to see his nursery
Sleep under quilts made for him
Wear the shoes that were bought
Conquer over this time of fraught
God will never give you more than you can handle
Ask and you shall receive
I’m asking now Lord,
You will answer, I must believe
Author notes
If you read this poem, please pray for my nephew Mickie who is just 11 days old. He's struggling for his health right now. He was injured during the birthing process now in NICU suffering from seizures and had to have an operation removing 80% of his large intestines. There will be many more months of healing. Please pray for strength for his fragile young life and a full recovery.

My sincere prayers for your little nephew and your family in his time of need. Although I am not a fan of rhyme poetry, for this I can make an exception, not only because of the sincerity of the prayer but also the deep abiding need to know that god is still somewhere out there and the belief that s/he is listening. I think this piece captures fully (well at least the first few stanzas) what I think to myself whenever I look up into a dark night spying with all my strength to see the tiny dots of light hovering so very far away.
Again, my prayers for you and yours. Thank you for entering this very touching piece. -
Laura, We sometimes forget to talk to God. HE is so forgiving and always there. You very personal poem was not selfish, and you are asking in beautiful poetic words, to spare the life of your nephew. This is a prayer of unconditional love. I can see why it won so many trophies.
As for the verse, the meter is awesome, and your rhyme is not forced. You can tell you put your entire soul into making this as perfect as you could. I pray your prayers were answered.
Love,
Linda
