Is it somewhere to write notes,
or a sort of no-man's-land
to protect what is written on the page
from any predators which might attack,
like silverfish, termites, snails?
In it, some writers punch two holes, sometimes more,
by which the paper, of which it is part,
and on which poetry or prose has been written,
may be entrapped by a two (or more) ring folder
and kept there, perhaps for posterity;
by the time of which the paper, thus holed,
will have needed to send for reinforcements
to surround those perforations
and give them protection against
the wear and tear of their fetters.

I Love these lines...
"to surround those perforations
and give them protection against
the wear and tear of their fetters."
Well Written, Scribe.
