You, Englishman,
ask me what poetry may be?
I will explain with a Portuguese word:
“Saudade”
This alone is enough?
Oh, what is Saudade, do you ask me?
Saudade, said Rose, a master of prose,
is when what is absent reigns.
So is this poetry?
Oh, indeed. You recall as now,
live all that is past again – sovereign the memory,
and you compose what the feelings dictates.
Wordsworth wished to have “Saudade”
to define poetry.

Ah, what is absent reigns...nicely put.

This is so near the edge, I fear a long fall into the pit of non-comprehension...to coin a phrase..I don't know much about "Saudade", but I know what I like. Good luck in the contest.

saudade is a word we can't translate to any other language using another single word. It's so very much our own word, don't you agree? and why I am writing in English

Sempre achei que a palavra saudade vem cantando momentos felizes enquanto nos entristece um pouquinho, ou muito.
saudade do mar, saudade de você
saudade dos que se foram
saudade do que quis ser
Excellent poem!
