The Fire Thief
The chains of my prison
Binding me for eternity
For but one choice
One action that changed the world,
The almighty and his court
Mounted upon the Olympian spire
Cared only for themselves
Indulging in ambrosia
As man toiled through primal ignorance,
Such selfish deities
Gluttonous in their own power
And engulfed in their greed,
So I acted in haste
Without worry of consequence
I stole away from the heavens
A cornerstone of civilization,
The gift of fire...
And as I bestowed this
Upon the shoulders of humans
The dawning of a new age began
When man would rise up
And become greater than he once was,
And for this shameless heresy
I suffered
Agonizing in pain
Bound to this rock
My doomed home,
As a mighty raptor plucked out my heart
Only to repeat this fate
Day after day
Until the the end of time...
Beguiler and betrayer
Among my names were chief
Cursed and forever known
As the fire thief
