Quiet Hope

The child raises his hand
Waving happily
Until it gets smacked down
They ask him to quiet his hope
Because his careless gesture
Is disturbing the peace

The brevity works extremely well, here, and as for the actual content of the poem... it happens far too often in schools, which always stifled me. Good luck in the contest.

  • Ah, this is so true. I've witnessed this many of times. It's sad how society today thinks we should be proper and follow rules and follow this and watch that, when all we should be doing is living life happy. I thought the shortness of it helped it become stronger in the sense of it being a solid thought, but poem-wise I think it could have been longer.
Thank you for entering, and good luck

I feel any longer and it wouldn't do itself justice.
But it is my poem, lol.

I hate this. Not the write, but the way some teachers slap down the esteem of children when I have always thought they were as responsible, if more so; as parents to build them up. A very powerful write. Good luck in the contest.
