'A borderline heresy', the Church said
'A borderline heresy'.
Not a full-scale dismissal of all their teachings
Not an abominal attack on their songs
Not an outright offence against their ways and wills
A mere 'borderline heresy'
And yet they throw me into a cell.
On what offence?
This, this borderline heresy?
A mere statement, thrown away casually
By someone not even old enough to understand what they say
What harm could I do?
Me, with my heretic ways
With my wild and wondrous acts of sin
What harm could my wanderings and wordings have?
None.
But the Church said my 'borderline heresy'
Is a sin enough for me to lose my life
And do you know what I said when the Church gave their verdict?
'Oh my God,' I said.
Now that's a true heresy for you.

Thank you for your take on the title 'A borderline Heresy', I wasn't sure how well this one would go down.
Would I get in trouble for saying that I found myself laughing as I read this? I know it's not meant to be funny, but I did find there to be a bit of humourous irony floating through the write...maybe that's just me.
On a bit of a more serious note, you are right; it rarely takes more than a small slip of the tongue for a religious organisation to start crying 'heretic' all over the place and in the worst times violence and torture were considered the best ways to deal with it.
You expressed that very well and I like how you used the repetition of the title to focus on that. Very well written and put together, best of luck in the contest.
