Fortune's Rover
Among the legends
And myths forever told
There is always one,
Blessed by fate
But challenged by the world
Cursed to such evils
And plagued by unknown terrors
Only to become triumphant
In face of adversity,
Riddled with difficulty
And seeded in despair,
For Ossian, Ulysses,
Morgan and Hook,
Were but some of the names
These legends took,
Destined by some higher power
Neither evil nor good
But rooted with with purpose
To affect his time
And change civilization
With such profound impact
That none would have fathomed,
For all the years passed
And the endless to come
Until man's existence is over
We take pride and strength
In the unspoken length
Of the life of a fortune's rover

I have read many poems of this sort, describing those that take on historical signifigance by the way that they deal with the tribulations that beset them.
"Eternal Champions", "Forever Soldiers" and yes, "Fortune's Rover" fits as well. Thank you for this take on the title prompt, I like how you don't specify them as good or evil, just with a purpose. It is a good...dedication???...to those that inspire and seem more than just people.
It would have been a little easier to read had it been divided into smaller stanzas, yet I did enjoy reading this; it was very descriptive and went together well.
Good luck,
Adrian
