Ebb: lines written at Broughty Castle

I sit, I watch the ripples here
that lap the shingle, where the firth
bleeds out into a gentle sea
made silver by the rising day…

The plaint of wheeling gulls I hear;
they know this sea – it laves the earth
by rise and fall, eternally;
my ebb, my flow, my life’s the Tay…

    Lovely meter and rhyme. Delightful imagery. Lovely concluding lines. "My life's the Tay" either as a metaphor for the river flowing into the eternally sweeping sea, or as a beloved site of home, or lifelong occupation. Much enjoyed!
    Thank you for your thoughts, and your entry in my contest!
