I think of you often and wonder why you are gone
You can’t be here, so I wanted to honor you with a song
My heart includes a spot especially for you
My soul wanders in memory of you too
Your smile was quick and gone far too soon
But when you smiled it brightened the room
I have fond memories of you standing by mom
Protecting her the times she was frail like a fawn
I have fond memories of you being by her side
When her moods seemed to change with the tide
I remember you would tell us she would be ok
When we were sure we couldn’t take another day
I am sorry you weren’t a part of my life longer
You made our mom happy and she became stronger
I pass the cemetery and glance over at your grave
I think of you in the hospital, you were so brave
I miss you and the way things used to be
Your spirit will always be a part of me

Your rhythm and rhyme are a joy to read. The content of the poem saddens me. I just lost my dad three years ago. I'm afraid he wasn't brave like your papa. He decided to take his life. I think of him every single day. Great job. Shancy.
