No One's Coming For You

Bitten, ripped, and shredded to pieces
I’ll cover my ears until my scream ceases
We share these same symptoms of life disrespected
I’ve never been loved, you’ve been neglected

Yet though we’re ill-fated, I wish you to smile
But your face wields a frown, poisoned and vile
I’d reach for your hand, but I’m chained to a wall
I’m sorry I’m distracted, but they want me to fall

Spear my heart and spare me the details
I’d do anything to make you happy, but it fails
I won’t give up, even if my tears grow cold
I will be the one to find the rainbow’s gold

But I finally admit you must break the glass
yourself and bleed; don’t let your chance pass
Escape, because no one’s coming for you. There’s no need
to live in this darkness, please, be freed.

Author notes

One of my few poems that rhyme, but I like how it turned out.
