Blown

Handkerchief over nostrils never keeps dirt from throat from brown blanket filling air.
Oklahoma spirit exhales harshness of depression's nightmare on dreams
looks at fertile family farmland buried under layers of sand and silt,
holding bank's foreclosure notice on property homesteaded by great grandparents.

Feeling in agony knowing children will never inherit what was their birthright,
middle age bones aching from onset of arthritis, chest hurts from pains of heart disease,
but pushing aside the harbingers of same fate that killed father at fifty five,
clinging to defiant warrior essence learned from model of parent's heart.

Visions of California from post cards fill the head as tomorrow's destination
with idea of giving up and swallowing pride suffocates hope more than any dust storm.

    *sigh*

Very sad words here. There are some who actually go through this. Fine work.

    Thanks for entering my contest.
I liked the fact that you actually
wrote about what these people would have gone through as they saw the dust.
