Letters Silently Dictated(distorted embrace)

My Love,

I remember every trip I took with you,
the nights we lay beneath purple skies.
Each lesson you taught me there is with me today
and with the memory of each-the pain of separation,

but cherished they remain.

You opened a cosmos of fresh understanding
and led me down the less taken highway.
While with you I soared higher and farther.
You gave to me a clarity of visions

behind cloudless, rainy days.

As I gaze through the window pane that is no longer there
I feel a hint of you in my perceptions.
A hot kiss on a cool day-enchanting.
Someday we shall meet again...maybe

and I will dance upon your vibrant colors once more.

Though I have coupled with many,
though I now repose in the arms of another
do not doubt my love of your affectations

or your influence inside my everyday,
nor my desire to lie, once again, inside your distorted embrace.

Author notes

I blame Abbey normal for this one. she had posted a "trippy" link on one of the board posts http://allpoetry.com/board/topic/268580999
and I followed it- it was definitely trippy. and owing to the nature of the boards the talk spread to drugs(sssh. dont Tell Ann). we had a short board chat in which I used the phrase "aaahhh LSD, how I miss your distorted embrace ". and that inspired the above piece.funny where inspiration comes from isnt it?

SO as the above implies- I did do acid in my past- a few times...twas the summer of 86 and the world expo was in town for 5 months. I had just graduated highschool and moved into my own place with three other guys. we smoked a lot of pot in those days- i mean a lot. My buddy tony got some acid from his high school english teacher in the summer and we all decided to try it. It was called purple sky and the other I subsequently became acquainted with was window pane- both are referenced in the poem. I can say with all honesty that LSD was the best trip I ever took, and I took that trip many times that summer, and a few times afterwards- never had a bad trip and never had a bad physical reaction to it-it did come from a federal lab afterall-. we would go to expo with its hundreds of thousands of people and just straight trip all day long., riding the rides, pretending to be roaming performers-and actually getting tips, I sang with the irish rovers talked to a wall- so many bizzare and zany memories- but no bad ones. I dont think I could ever do it again as it has been 17 years since I last dropped, but I do carry fond memories of the experience.
I am quite happy with how it turned out, hope you are too...peace

Having never done anykind of 'drugs', this piece made me think it was written about an old love... the human kind. I found it to be very expressive, and impressive, to feel that way about your past lover(s) while having new love and life. I was pleasantly taken with your reminesence

Then I read your author notes and the poem took on a whole new meaning. Your honesty coupled with the remembrance of it all being a memorable time in your life, coupled with the freedom of youth and the experiences being fortunate rather than being disastrous, still made this write a pleasant read

I'm old fashioned, I guess... which makes you having been a naughty (and lucky) boy

Hey Dee, yes i was a very bad boy growing up. I tried many drugs both natural and unnatural, but LSD was my fave. it took the mind to such great heights yet left me feeling in total control-cant say that about opium or peyote. the high was one of ethereal feelings and an opennness i have not felt since. I would love to "Drop" one more time but doubt i ever will- too old for that stuff now.
Thanks for stoppping by to read, always glad to see you on my pages even if you are a stinky ol' mod ...peace Terry

    Good

This makes good use of a simple analogy of a relationship to express feelings and surprisingly you are left with a clean taste in your mind after reading this poem. The poem flows with a pleasant beat and the words say everything by evoking thoughts within the reader's consciousness. This is a well penned poem that not only describes a state of mind , but makes an attempt to instill such thoughts within the reader's mind through great imagery and triggered emotions. memories.

See, when you first uttered that pharse "distorted embrace" I could see the poetic potential inside it, and found it a remarkably brilliant way to express the LSD experience.

"As I gaze through the window pane that is no longer there
I feel a hint of you in my perceptions."

I like that. Though I think I would have refered to it as a "broken" window pane to further bring across the idea of distortions.

It's amazing how this perception stays, and though those days are over... you can take them with you in little daily, mental reminders.

Beautiful write, man. It's a softly trippy love story, and you tell it so well.

    PS. Thanks for the mention!

Thank you Abbey, for the nice comment and for the inspiration on this one. I had thought of adding broken actually, but thought the line ran on too long with it in there- may have to revisit that one. As soon as I wrote the words inspiration started to flow and this was a very easy piece to write, mainly because I identify with the topic so well . glad you liked it...peace

Even if this one wasn't featured I could still see myself reading it for the title alone, because titles amuse me. NEvertheless, it was also a great poem. For example, the imagery was amazing. In conclusion, although it may have not been intended this poem took me aay as if I was in with another person wanderring through an amusement park after hours.
    Thanks for the images

I like how, if you didn't know this was a reference to LSD, it is still a meaningful poem with a different interpretation.

    Further: should be 'farther'
In the last line, 'lay' should be 'lie.'

I liked the line about cloudless, rainy days.

I had to read it again, after reading your notes, and it was very different the second time! I like the address to the drug, almost as to a muse. I also became caught up in memories, opening a door that has stayed closed for years to find the colours and patterns all still there. This world pales in comparison, but I've never tried to write about it. I think I'll have to...

..yes do. I dont make a habit of writing about the drugs I have tried in the past but once in a while, upon reflection a little something comes to me and I jot it down. this was, as my notes state, inspired by a brief board chat I had with abbey normal...thanks for stopping by to read...peace
