Mem’ries of Mother

Missing image

Mem’ries of Mother

Mem’ries of Eden, fill the air
Mem’ries of flowers, in our hair
Mem’ries forever, loving care
Mem’ries, Mem’ries

Mem’ries of laughter, always there
Mem’ries of mother, lady fair

Mem’ries of our love, that we share
Mem’ries, Mem’ries

Mem’ries, a mother, daughter pair

Mem’ries of heart, I'm so aware
Mem’ries of mother, in my prayer
Mem’ries, Mem’ries

Author notes

Monotetra:
The monotetra is a poetic form developed by Michael Walker. Each stanza contains four lines in monorhyme. Each line is in tetrameter (four metrical feet) for a total of eight syllables. What makes the monotetra so powerful as a poetic form, is that the last line contains two metrical feet, repeated. It can have as few as one or two stanzas, or as many as desired.

Stanza Structure:
Line 1: 8 syllables; A1
Line 2: 8 syllables; A2
Line 3: 8 syllables; A3
Line 4: 4 syllables, repeated; A4, A4 or B4, B4

    Wondrous work!

I loved this! It is excellent in its reinforcement of repetition, and its musical flow. Simply divine in both content, which is so tender, and structure.

    As always: perfection in poetry.

    Love

This really hit home for me, I lost my mother when I was 13 and being home schooled very close to her. It made a tear shine this morning. Lovely read, and interesting form.

All of your "singular talents" combined make the rest of us look like idiot savants!!! And my talent is surely "nose-picking" these days... hehe! And this lovely... as usual!!!

This is very sentimental, but not sickeningly sappy. How do you do that? Damn. Another singular talent you have. I am keeping track and I think that makes about seventeen singular talents you have. It is not fair! Spread them around! Oh, well... you have penned a masterpiece, and it is worthy of high praise indeed.

I like using this form now and then - really very specific form and rhyme, and meter. Enjoyed the topic - went well with the picture as well.

I don't think you need the apostrophe in "memories", as the two-syllable pronunciation is well-known, and this looks a wee bit awkward like this. BUT it is a lovely, sentimental, simple poem. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

I think I have to, it's a contraction, I left the "o" out to make it two syllables.
