Your Reader ...

Oh how I wile, away the days
While time, long gone, repeats it’s plea,
“Please don’t forget -- remember me,”
‘til once again I’m whisked away
Where time is naught, I journey on,
Each word I read is one mile gone;
A thousand more, I’ll pause to breathe
Then readjust my memory.

How free I am upon your steed
Of thoughts that ride o’er moor and plain,
I cross swift streams then back again
Next thunder on -- ignoring needs
Unmet;  yet waiting to be found.
And so, I go another round,
A thousand more I’ll ride with thee
Unveiling of life’s mystery.

Without your words I couldn’t have known,
Each mile traversed a brand new view.
Forget-me-nots, reminders too
Of how we grow when seeds are sown.
Yet life’s not ruled by setting sun
But by the deeds that have been done,
A thousand thoughts - while history,
This reader’s bridge to all that’s free!

Oh how I wile, away the days
While time, long gone, repeats it’s plea,
“Please don’t forget -- remember me,”
‘til once again I’m whisked away
Where time is naught, I journey on,
Each word I read is one mile gone;
A thousand more, I’ll pause to breathe
Then readjust my memory.

The first thing that jumps out is the skill with which this is written; beautiful, effortless. For me this is more important than the theme/premise, which while it may or may not be original, is indeed a classical representation in its style, which would seem to be encouraged by the host since the contest's explanation reflects a romanticized vision of Wordsworth.

But I was impressed by your poetic skill and I haven't read the other entries but I'd bet it will take a very good poem to surpass this (and yes that is the kiss of death for whenever I tell someone that, they never win, lol)

Reading this, I'm reminded of reading fiction, a quiet snowy day with my feet up on the wood stove, reading some long dead author (I won't say any names because I was told I sound pretentious when I do) Poor me, lol.

    It is really quite good.

  • A very pleasant poem and a welcome addition to the contest.
Your premise of each new reading being a journey may not be new but its treatment here is refreshing and well executed.
    I like the couplet
While time, long gone, repeats it’s plea,
“Please don’t forget -- remember me,”
    Fine work and good luck
