Dr. Seuss' Mother Learns To Count

Missing image
One ring, two rings, three rings, four
Stop that ringing, can’t take anymore
First the phone, then the front door
What’s all the darned ringing for?

From the TV repairman comes a call
Says he can’t make it after all
Leaving me dumped like a worn out ball
As it thuds quite flatly against the wall

At the door there’s a bill collector man
Trying to take all my money before he ran
But there’s not any left in my empty can
So he’ll have to settle for a bucket of sand

Oh no, it’s the phone again and the doorbell, too
What’s a poor old lady to do
Who’s ringing this time? I haven’t a clue
Guess I’ll just let them ring, boo-hoo

One ring, two rings, three rings, four
It’s the mailman bringing another bill or more
I can tell by the ring it’s trouble at the door
I think I’ll slip out the back, stop keeping score

And if they catch up with me at last
There goes my future, here comes my past
Guess I might as well let my fate be cast
They’re after me and they’re much too fast

What’s all that darned ringing for
First the phone, then the front door
Stop that ringing, can’t take anymore
One ring, two rings, three rings, four

Author notes

My feeble attempt... I can't find the Dr. Suess poem that inspired this and I've forgotten the name of it but it's out there somewhere I'll keep looking for it.

Being the weird kid I was, I had this hatred of Dr. Seuss, well I don't mean I plotted his doom or anything but he annoyed the life out of me. Hey, I had issues, lol.

I hate being disturbed by things like phone calls and people at the door, though I now am indifferent to Dr. Seuss so there's been some progression.

Oh my, that is a very Seussian background:
Not at all a mellow yellow.
