Baseball is Alone

Today, Baseball is all alone.
He has been left behind by generations
for millions of greenbacks.
Baseball sits in the dugout aged and frail;
nobody cares for him anymore.
Children and adults alike spit at him as they walk by.
He is no longer loved, but betrayed for
heartless, gutless games that dare call themselves a sport.
Baseball weeps and buries his face in his hands,
grief stricken and ashamed.
Him I do not blame for the mockery of
our greatest and only national pastime.
Today, Baseball is grown-up and alone.

    My favorite line: "Children and adults alike spit at him as they walk by." It's funny how sports can seal off age differences quicker than most anything else in the world. Anyway, hopefully our boys will get themselves into gear pretty soon!! They have to redeem themselves!!

      you know, I never thought about that much even though I know that it's true in my family. In fact, I just discovered that a great-great aunt of mine LOVES baseball and the Tigers, too! And our boys are almost beyond redemption after tonight!
