Idealistic Canvases

How can this portrait of perfection
be so bludgeoned by the traditional weapons
of distrust,
of greed,
of manipulation?

Couldn't we just take the many colored cloak
and hang it on all our shoulders,
without blame,
without shame,
without regret?

I guess we could breathe the green of new life
and pretend that all is well,
that poverty has been wiped out,
forget that somewhere inside the fear keeps on
throbbing,
beating,
growing.

Could this forest contain it all?

Couldn't we just heal ourselves
and forget the urgent need
for a safe toxic waste site
under African skies.

All artists, I suppose, are idealists ...

Author notes

Well, I know what I would feel looking out over the vistas of the beloved country of my birth. I am sorry if I projected...

This is such a very powerful piece. Truly thought provoking. Could be viewed as a bit subtle or vague to those who do not know the underlying circumstance, but overall a great write.

    Engaging

I like the premise of your discourse
and think that it would be far easier
if we would all one day agree to change.
Stop all the bullshit and admit to our
failures. Forgive all the pricks who got
us into all this mess and make a new contract
for equality, a cleaner planet and peace.
    How's that for idealism?

love the image of "the many colored cloak" and how nature itself could heal us from our materialism. I believe the answer to all the questions is a very loud "YES" . what is being asked for is not idealism, but our inherent birthright. thank you for the write.

there is nothing greater than a view of nature from Africa (I agree wholeheartedly!)
Wonderfully done ... you have portrayed (pun intended!) sadness along with the beauty - well done!

    Done well

Ideals ,dreams put into motion have touched our lives throughout creation.Without them the world would be running on empty.

Gaia we maybe idealists but it is our duty to voice those ideals in anyway we can to bring this world to its senses, as individuals we have one voice joined together we may be heard.

I love this write on a subject close to my heart and a problem the world over. A powerful piece.

idealist you may be, but wanting such things as peace and community with nature, unity of purpose rather than conflict should in no way set you apart from others... or angels...PK

Beautiful write and I especially liked the ending. I agree with that view. As a poet, I also think of myself as an idealist and am fairly optimistic about life. I believe that the world can be a better place if only enough people believed in themselves and the dream to make the world a better place. Best of luck in the contest.
