The M&M of Life

Growin’ up in the hood,
Yo’ head full of dreams,
Only to get knocked down
By a couple of thieves,
Ya realize yo’ breath
Ain’t worth mo’ than
A pocketful a dimes.
That’s the M&M of Life.

Yella, lil’ boy, coats yo’ true friends
An’ blue’s representin’ yo’ miserable days.
Red is for the blood shed, the anger
Of the cold heart that’s wit’in.
Green, yo’ gettin’ sick, yo’ skin, tightly thin.
You da man, a real wile chile when ya
Sportin’ that orange, getting’ flashly wit the ladies.
Livin’ off da streets, yo’ mind gets a lil’ hazy.
That’s right, ya get a lil’ crazy!
I say when life be brown,
You be gettin’ around.

So take it from me, ya ugly lil’ gump,
This world ain’t made up of no mo’
Than them punk azz Soces and Greasas.
Leave ‘em alone an get outta this town
Cuz it ain’t no rainbow
An ya cain’t sing in da rain.
‘Member scuzbucket, ya hippie lil’ kid,
Ya eatin’ yo life outta da palm of yo’ hand.
You’s livin’ the M&M of Life.

Author notes

The Soces and Greasers references obviously comes from S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders," which I read in 7th grade in Mr. Crabb's class, but for some reason, I remember writing and reading this in high school in Mr. Wakeman's class. Strange, huh?

I never read that book in school, but I did end up reading it at home and couldn't put it down!! I'm not usually one who enjoys reading either, so when I can't put down a book, you know that it's something extra special. lol. Anyway, I really liked this one and you merged into another character quite well. Love the slang talk you had going throughout the whole thing! Gives it a lot of life and honesty.
