Dream Variations

I have dreams.
Dreams that are made of greatness,
child-like in their aspirations
keep me toiling day to day.
Ordinary dreams that have
stood the test of time
beckon naturally my destiny.
Foolish dreams spawned, sprung, spun, spooned from
idle hours of vanity,
longing to grow-up and become a child again.

I have dreams.
Circumstances influence my world,
full of disappointments and heartache,
broken promises unfulfilled.
Choices, choices that I have inherited,
given to me as tools to use
rightfully and wrongfully as I see fit.
My life I daily create,
each decision I make
dictates the growth of my dreams.

I have dreams.
My hopes, my reactions are all confirmation
of my values, my worth, and
what I believe in is dream variations.
To take my life to a new level,
I constantly strive to succeed
by challenging myself, reaching higher.
Dream variations are mine to make,
sacrifices I’m willing to take
to achieve my extraordinary dreams.

I have dreams
and I will live them.
Pride and self aside,
I will build upon and not cheat myself
of the highest dream variation
because I have dreams.

I end one of my poems with "For the spirit of divinity is to be one who can envision through a youthful heart while dreaming through a sagely soul." I almost think of how amazing it would be if we could have the fire of childhood mixed with the knowledge of adulthood, but then again, why can't we?! I think your poem is a good example of that. It's ok to dream big...you'll learn a lot on your way and see things nobody else would've had the chance to see. Great writing!!
