an accounting

we budget time,

add yesterday
divide distance
by time

multiply someday
by maybe
and subtract
soon

the washing machine drains
into the sudden silence

the laundry cannot wait

today i do not pray for you
but sit with folded hands

my sleep begins
to suffer

i hold you hostage
for my own safekeeping

turn lights off
open the eastern window

listen

I love your poetry. So much..

What a quiet moment here,..this poem is silent to me. Thinking....and thinking about so much...accounting for everything in life until now & future...and you open the window to drown out your thoughts.

    This is excellent.

    I love:

    my sleep begins
    to suffer

    i hold you hostage
    for my own safekeeping

(suggestion: do not use the word 'time' twice in the first 4 short lines...it does sound repetitive..)
