Can The Old Ship Zion Come?

I look down the river that flows into the sea,
waiting now, just waiting for you to come to me.
Can that Old Ship Zion come this far from shore,
I pray that it so, so I will be alone no more.

They say that Zion only passes this way once and I pray.
That when it comes it will bring you my love back today.
My time is far past the age of golden years.
Yet I shall wait on this river but you won't see any tears.

It was the Old Ship Zion whose captain called your name.
In late December the news was sent, but I still carry the flame.
Oh but love how I have waited to see you again.
What is that appearing from the fog and the rain?

Why tis that old Ship Zion whose captain steers it near.
The crashing waves cannot diminish my name that I hear.
Love lasts an eternity and now we must meet heart to heart.
And sail over the seas and oceans to where we will never part.

Author notes

I heard the version of the song The Old Ship Zion, it is a beautiful song of being reunited with God in his kingdom as the ship sails. I could not help but think of the woman who is waiting for something to come down the river, the lover for whom she longs for.

My impression of a woman waiting for her love to come.

It almost made me break down in tears. So hauntingly sad, because many of us hope and long for the day of being reunited with those we love. This was beautiful! Thank you for posting it here. I loved the last stanza and it is very true, that

"The crashing waves cannot diminish my name that I hear.
Love lasts an eternity and now we must meet heart to heart.
And sail over the seas and oceans to where we will never part"

We most certainly will be with those we love for eternity in Paradise!
