Signs of Spring (Trijan Refrain)

Winter is slowly exiting,
The signs are ev'rywhere.
New life, vitality of spring,
I feel it in the air.
Forsythias starting to bloom,
Bright daffodils mine eyes consume...
      Forsythias
      Forsythias
I see outside of my front room.

Winter is slowly exiting
As Mother Nature smiles.
In early morn the birds all sing,
tunes sung in diff'rent styles.
Sun shining bright warms up the day,
Heavenly hues a soft array...
      Sun shining bright
      Sun shining bright
The beauty of a sweet bouquet.

Winter is slowly exiting,
My heart is filled with joy.
Like a child anticipating,
Thoughts of a brand new toy.
And so goes life, the seasons change,
Priorities I must arrange...
      And so goes life
      And so goes life
One moment I will not exchange.

Trijan Refrain

The Trijan Refrain, created by Jan Turner, consists of three 9-line stanzas, for a total of 27 lines. Line 1 is the same in all three stanzas, although a variation of the form is not to repeat the same line at the beginning of each stanza. In other words, the beginning line of each stanza can be different. The first four syllables of line 5 in each stanza are repeated as the double-refrain for lines 7 and 8. The Trijan Refrain is a rhyming poem with a set meter and rhyme scheme as follows:
Rhyme scheme: a/b/a/b/c/c/d,d refrain of first 4 syllables of line five /c
Meter: 8/6/8/6/8/8/4,4 refrain/8

Wow. This is simply delightful. Perfect execution of the form and it simply sings through the change of season ; winter to spring. You simply shine when you write form. This piece just made my heart smile. Well done. ~Pamela

Pam, Thank you for the lovely words of praise you gave to me here. I am starting to like this form very much. LOL What form don't I? LOL I'm very happy that you enjoyed the change of season. It also has a double meaning in there. With the loss of Jules. I have to prioritize. This coming Thursday she would have been fifty. Myself and some of my highschool girlfriends are going to go out to dinner and honor her that evening. We all know she would want us to do this. She will be smiling at us that night and she will be there in spirit. I'm very happy I could make your heart smile. Love you my friend, Joyce

Kiran, Thank you for the applauses and your lovely words of praise for me here. This form is really fun to do. I've only tried a couple so far, though they do have that song like quality you mentioned. I'm very happy that you enjoyed the signs of spring. Fly free with those butterflies. Love and God bless you my friend, Joyce

This was beautiful, as bright and airy as your spirit. You have the ability to make each new form your own, and this was a pleasure to read. I know the arrival of Spring must mean a great deal to those who are covered with snow. Even for us jaded Californians the wildflowers and longer hours of daylight are so welcome. Good luck in this contest. It's quite an achievement to be a Winklings newbie and a deputy in the same month. Peace, Liz

Liz, Thank you for the applauses and your lovely words of praise here sis. Spring does give new life to more than nature and it takes away the winter doldrums we sometimes get into. The longer days do help so much to keep our spirits strong. I'm very happy that you enjoyed this one and thank you for both the best wishes you gave to me. I was honored when Ron asked me to fill that position. I have been having a rough time as of late, so this one really helped me. It has kind of a double meaning. Love and hugs for you, Joyce

P.S. I did get your email when I finally checked this past weekend. I will do what I can and I will need to see who would like to step up in the group. Best wishes for you, Jason and little bit.

Kevin, Thank you for the applauses and your lovely words of praise for me here. Spring does give us new life and a Trijan Refrain sounded like a good way to do that with it's melodic beat. I'm very happy that you enjoyed and hopefully the warm weather is here to stay. Love and God bless you my friend, Joyce

as much as i love the winter snow and the beauty it has on the mountains, the spring air refreshes my weary heart, giving hope in the new life it offers in its warmth... at least i hope.
    wonderfully written.

going, Thank you for the applauses and your lovely words of praise as always. I do love the beauty of fresh fallen snow, however I do love spring as nature is reborn. Life springs eternal through hope and I'm very happy that you could feel from this. It is my hope to always imbue special thoughts and feelings from the words I write. You always leave me inspired. Love and God bless you my friend, Joyce
