Stillness

A summer's night, the air is still
yet all around is heard earth's cadence.
Cicadas hum foretelling sunset
as feathers rustle in trees above.

A sleepiness embraces all
as twilight gently lays her cloak,
hint of zephyr breathes a goodnight kiss
and all is calm as night enfolds.

But warmth still beats a resonance
suffused throughout the darkened air,
it carefully percolates on low
until dawn awakens in rhythmic drumroll.

Just for now this miracle breathes
as in silence I feel a blessed witness
for if I move this magic spell will break
I cannot destroy this wondrous moment.

Author notes

Albert Einstein:
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

How beautiful! Not only a great take on the prompt but a trip into a warm evening. These well penned words exlict memories of many wonderful nights in the South.

    Good luck in the contest
