It's hard to be so very good, and still be modest.
I confess, I ain't the best.
Not here or there or in the West.
But if I try,
& yes, I'll die.
But I would die still trying.
You can join me
and we can be
the best that we can ever be.
I might be bad,
but oh so bad,
that wicked grins will still forgive us.
You see this thing
can maybe bring
a smile or a chuckle.
& after all
we overhaul
and try to keep rebuilding.
Author notes
If I can be bad,
so you can be good.
That's what I should
try to do.
If I can be real
& make you a deal
let's do it,
and set you free.

Maybe the best way to say thanks is to be real, to do good for the one whom you wish to thank

Very nicely done! The title drew me in, and the poem did not disappoint. I love the line "the wicked grins will still forgive us"! That has a whole bunch of interpretations!
