Anastasia Leerwood

“Love and tragedy go hand in hand”
so says the old witch on Leerwood Hill.
“There is nothing more sad nor so grand
then the soul of the lover at the mill.”

People hear her dark tale every day
as she sits rocking on her front porch.
They heed as she warns of the way
three lives were burned with hell’s torch.

“Ana’s heart belonged to he
who crept every night to her window pane.
Yet when her father awoke to see
his princess tainted, his mind went insane.”

“He forced the boy to Leerwood mill
and wheeled an ax high in the air.
Ana’s eyes saw the blood spill.
She drew back as her heart began to tear.”

“Then in such shock of what he had done
he took his own life with a dancing flame.
Nothing she tried could have undone
what she felt she had caused with such shame.”

“She turned to dark magic to raise
the two men she loved from death’s door.
To her demise hope shone no rays
as Ana would try harder and chant more.”

“To this day she still tries black art
to bring them back to her shadowed heart.”

Witch Anastasia goes along
crying her story in this lonely song.

I didn't realize, 'til nearing the end, that she was telling the story about herself. I like the story! The rhythm could be more spot on, but it's not bad.
