I sit on a soggy stump,
waiting for the moon to rise,
for then live comes out,
that no one ever sees.
My silent eyes drift over
the now moon lit pond,
a tiny bird swiftly glides
over the top of the unbroken water
going back home
with a song trailing behind.
Raindrops keep falling as I listen
to their plopping on the muddy ground
that surrounds the wide pond,
the trees rise even taller in the moonlight,
as if to guard against the sudden rain.
An owl hoots behind me,
protected by the wide branches of the pine,
he looks for his midnight snack.
Howling at the full moon
a wolf tumbles out of the brush
looking for a drink
to quench his night thirst.
I sit, and wait,
watching the life around me,
no one ever sees.

Witness to the Uncommon Beauty
How insightful for you to think of beauty at nighttime in my meadow! You have chosen the special alternative to write about. Top marks for reaching beyond the obvious consideration of a meadow's beauty. I had better watch those wolves though! Thank you for entering your poem, writer

Great imagery!
Often times I ponder the wonder of such things... It truly is the flight of my fancy, to do this one freeing thing...
Life is awkward enough... thank God for His gift of the beauty that surrounds me... because it is the struggles within, that fight with me!
God bless! Keep up the thoughtful writing!
