Forgetting (WIP)

Everywhere, people are forgetting the past,
"look to the future" says they,
ignorant to the hypocrisy of their words.

For what is the future with the past,
the foundation that is essential to modern society.

Nothing that the population of Earth takes for granted would exist without the sacrifices of their ancestors,
mistakes, evil deeds would forever be doomed to be repeated,
Nanking, Rwanda, the Holocaust....
all these tragic incidents, trodden upon and forgotten,
becoming of less significance then a ant,
drowning in a river of ashes.

Government, society, politics....
all these seen corrupt and useless...
yet despite their vices they are preferable to anarchy...

Ignorance among the young has taken hold,
I know,
all around me I see and hear it,
for it is a sad day when one,
does not even know who their own prime minister is...

What would happen if suddenly the past disappeared,
if enough people "looked to the future,"
that the past was simply erased,
in ignorance one might say a perfect world....
in reality one would say destruction...defeat
For what is a better description of the twenty first century, but an age of defeat?
