Masefield, a sea-farer well read
A poet as well it was said
Wrote Box of Delights
For kids and small sprites
But fantasy now, it is dead

You have chosen one of my favourite poets. The very first poem i remember writing (alas I can't remember the words) was a parody on Cargoes when I was in Junior school (age about 9) and I have recently attended a dramatic reading of Dauber, a sadly ignored masterpiece.
Anyway your own poem was good not only because of its resonance with my tastes but because it had some of the limerick form, refered to the writer's work and his target audience.
The author may be dead but his book is not and is still available via the "net".
Good poem. Good Luck.

perhaps not dead but very different. I was drawn to your poem because I remember Masefield from school readers. Always enjoyed his stuff. Nice write and I love the picture of the Box of Delights cover. There's an example of how kids lit has changed. No one would call a book by such a title now but I just love it.

Hey, I edited a class magazine called "Seafarers"... Oh, that was long time back. Is fantasy really dead? If so, that must be the reason why I feel so isolated these days. But hey, there is a lot of fantasy at AP I guess...so, that can be an escape, virtual voyages in cyber space...lol. A very good poem, worth some real thought. Congrats dear friend

There is a melancholy in this poem ...
and it made me sad. The alliterative link between delights and death is ironic and stark.
Well written. Poet.
