All quotes are from D.H. Lawrence and his book “Pansies”
(I) "As a plant becomes pot-bound man becomes ego-bound enclosed in
his own limited mental consciousness."
A foolish face I wear when praise is handed out like change,
A penny’s worth or maybe more subtracts from wisdom gained.
My private thoughts ~ I share with you to stimulate my own,
And yet I feel such waste with want ~ when need stands all alone.
Inflated pride will chide the mind while reasons crowd the room,
Jeering, cheering, shadow-speak, ‘til all seems doom and gloom.
Come vice or virtue, friend or foe, with each I share a dance;
Perception’s test to venture out ~ A self-reliant chance!
(II) "I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself."
I watch lone hawk take to the skies while buzzards down below
Fight strong about, what’s long been dead ~ just like some folks I know.
I thought about how nature shows examples with each act
And realized that what we have, is that which wild things lack.
We’re sensitive to what we see and feel the need to please;
Self reliance, independence ~ take time to grow from seed.
Silence stills that voice of chaos - a gift of grace renews
And so life’s dance begins again with sense and brand new view …
(III) “What makes people unsatisfied is that they accept lies.”
Should I believe that others have and I was left bereft?
Oh no! my friend I’m quite prepared and armed with antitheft.
Perception is an innate gift connecting life’s events -
A rebel mind divides itself ~ I trust in sentiment!
My heart knows truth, as well as lies and quickly sorts them out
Alerts what’s trash, to spare my mind and keep my spirit stout.
What’s left of right or in between may not be right for me;
Assurance is insurance for my dance with liberty ...

If I were judging this contest on skill and rhyme and flow and everything that makes a poem great, you would definately take the gold...just like your last contest you entered this piece in. Simply wonderful. But, I am judging this contest on how I am perceived by my profile page. Not to say that this is not the way you perceive me, but I will have to weigh out the fact that it is a pre-write and how well does it fit into this catagory? Does this particular poem reflect who I am? I don't know? I will need to read all the entries and determine which poem fits the category best. Thank you so much for entering this wonderful work of art!! and good luck in my contest. I am sure it will win gold in the other contest. It is simply that good of a write.

Skillfully executed. I love rhymes and the ones here are unfelt. Loved it.
Wonderful content and sentiment. Congrats and write on! One.

Such flawless meter and rhyme and wisdom should grace the shelves of every school library in the land. You have a way of teaching/reminding me of what's really important in life's journey. It is not where we are but the final destination that counts. Excellent work as always my friend.

Sincerely,
Leo Long

I live on stout st. so
"My heart knows truth, as well as lies and quickly sorts them out
Alerts what’s trash, to spare my mind and keep my spirit stout."
that's my favorite line
but the ending's awesome and there's a lot of wisdom tied up in it.
