Riding the River

Missing image

~~~~~
The slap of the paddle
against the cool hips of the water
cuts through the shadows
of the afternoon sun
and the ache from the blister
that burns in the muscle
groans a blue note
for the pump and the grind
that trots with the current
and gallops in the mind
And I can feel the strong tow
of the deep underflow
pulling at the reins
of the dark horse in motion
so I slap at her haunches
with the whip of my will
cutting the stone cold bone
of the white water foam
just to ride
her wild bucking rapids
~~~~~

Author notes

The picture doesn't do a thing to enhance the poem ... but it's a good example of a half-drowned river rat

    Good write!

    I don't think you look like a halp drowned river rat. Hehe.

    But...on to more important things...
    I like this. It makes me wanna get lost in water. And just float...float on and on and on.
    Wonderful imagery.

    Keep it up...and maybe one of these days I'll write something worthwhile for the first time in a long time.

    Well, it certainly ...

    isn't a bad job. Reminds me of Wordsworth somehow.
