The dude was rude,
he hacked and hewed,
then slumped on the stump.
(The tree was a chump.)
What is the moral
for everything floral
that covered the acres?
Beware of the takers!
he hacked and hewed,
then slumped on the stump.
(The tree was a chump.)
What is the moral
for everything floral
that covered the acres?
Beware of the takers!
Author notes
Much as I like Shel Silverstein (and I really do), I never understood the message of the giving tree. I mean, is the moral "let the man stick it to ya, then when he comes back for more, let 'im stick it to ya again"? Just my take on it.
Please tell me what you think

the story is a tale of the relationship between a father or mother and a son think about it and reread the story maybe then you will have something interesting for me to read

Or is it an allegory about mankind's rape of the land, and the devastation left behind? Read the story again and think about it. Maybe then you will have an interesting contest in which I can participate.

One thing about literature - any literature - is that it may evoke more than one response, and all responses are legitimate, though not necessarily the same as yours.
Thanks for the comment!
