Bing Crosby

My sister bought a turtle once
With some Christmas money
On a trip to Eatons.

The money covered his home,
A little dish for food,
And all the other things
He needed for his household.

She named him Bing Crosby.
I guess she liked the sound of it.
Hard to tell if a turtle is happy
But he ate well, slept and prospered.

He would never get to waddle,
Slow and stately, in the sun.
He was tiny, an inch or two.
He didn't grow much
And didn't have much social life.

One day, my sister went to feed him
But he made less response than usual
(No response at all).
His shell had softened.
Bing Crosby had died.

Love your poem. Quite a name for a turtle. I had a turtle and named it Mertle. I have no idea why. Your poem seemed to drop off. I was looking for more. My turtle got quite large and had to be let go in a pond. I really prefer dogs and cats. Turtles cannot play catch.

Thank you very much for taking the time to enter this contest. I am sure your sister was upset because her turtle died. Interesting name for the turtle: Bing Crosby. Thanks for the entry.

    Turltes as pets

I too had a pair of these very small green turtles when I was a child. One died and I might have killed the other when I took it out and let it go in a nearby stream. It is a found memory. Seeing these turtles on the log sunning themselves makes me wonder if the one I let go ever got a chance to do this. These turtles all look very content.
