Kill them! And our world will be secure
Kill them with such leisure
They are in our way
Kill them! And our problems will be solved
It doesn’t matter what all is involved
Who cares what they say
Kill them! And our ideology will be protected
After all, isn’t it what’s expected?
Our beliefs have to stay
The opposing side says kill them!
They want to be secure
They want their problems to be solved
They want their ideology protected
They want the same
Love seems lost
Hate from blame
We pay the cost
It stays the same
Blood is shed because of that one question
That simple expression
If we don’t kill them, what’s to keep them from killing us?
Blood is shed because logically it fits
The question seems legit
But it blinds us from what is truly just
Blood is shed because we ask in awe
But the question has one flaw
If we kill them, the opposition will ask the same in disgust
The opposing side wants blood shed
They ask the same question
They see that logic fits
They ask in awe if they don’t kill us, wants to keep us from killing them?
They ask the same
Love seems lost
Hate from blame
We pay the cost
It stays the same
Pain comes from such sadness
What is with this madness?
We think people are expendable
Pain comes from such ignorance
We all recoil and wince
We think such actions are dependable
Pain comes from tension being misunderstood
We believe it is all for the greater good
We think our procedures are commendable
The opposing side also feels pain
They must also bear such sadness
They, like us, have such ignorance
They have tension being misunderstood
They feel the same
Love seems lost
Hate from blame
We pay the cost
It stays the same
We dreadfully fail to see
From realization we flee
We don’t recognize that the opposing side is all the same
We have allowed this condition for mankind
Always making ourselves blind
We don’t recognize that it’s not just a game
We forgot we are all one people
Why think love is feeble?
We don’t recognize that it’s brought great shame
The opposing side is part of that “we”
They also dreadfully fail to see
They are a part of the condition of mankind
They are a part of that one people
They live the same
Love seems lost
Hate from blame
We pay the cost
It stays the same
Author notes
I wrote this to express how one side sill not realize that other side of the conflict deals with the same tensions and misunderstandings.

Thank you for entering my contest, I really liked this a lot. It was an interesting twist on the promt, and it was a good one. The rhyming was wonderful and the concept was really thought-provoking. I enjoyed the read.

killing becomes logical only in war...but the pain and loss is the same for all ...well brought out..congrats on the trophy

well wow :)
First and foremost: This poem would make a really good song; the way you wrote this looks like a stream of lyrics. It puts energy behind the message your presenting.
Second of all: Interesting rhyme scheme...
A,A,B,C,C,B,D,D,B, etc... excellent.
Finally: I really enjoyed reading this. It kept my attention and pointed out really specific and important points involved in a war.
-Thanks for your entry, Angi Terese

amazing!
goodluck! -
This is amazing. I really like it. The only real problem I had was the length, but since the flow was really good, it kept me reading. My favorite part is:
"Love seems lost
Hate from blame
We pay the cost
It stays the same"
I also like how you repeat it. Brilliantly written.

Absolutely brilliant. I love this kind of poetry. I really do. And I don't know how to correctly label it. Politics? Controversies? It doesn't really matter. All that matters is that you know that you did wonderfully with this. It was wonderful. I don't know what else to say but Wow.
