Loving a Man in His Youth

Have you ever been in love—
                          so in love—
                                      that you got down on your knees,
                                      cried and prayed for that soul?
Has THAT person touched your heart,
                                  melting it
                                            breaking it
                                                        strengthening it?
Irresistible, powerful feelings of compassion,
                                            have they overpowered you,
                                            making you subject to all of Love’s flaws?


Love has made a fool out of me—
                              I guess it always will.
When the impossible became possible,
                                    one guy, one gal became friends;
                                    I fell prey to his misguided face.
He may be a part of me
                      that I keep swept under the rug,
                                                      but looking in the mirror,
                      I see him in myself,
                                                      without the Heavenly depth.


A gal could never ask for
                        a better friend than he,
                                                but he's involved in ungodly ways.
I shudder at his weekend plans
                              and his lifestyle shatters my heart.
This young man, he hurts me
                          like a knife, buttering me up deep inside.


For this companion in my life I would
                                    lie
                                      fight
                                      cheat,
                                            but I have found that my Light
                                            may not ever be enough;
                                            my loving intentions he'll always
                                      defeat.
